TRANSFORMATIVE GROWTH
AND DEVELOPMENT
In September 2022, the U.S. Economic Development Administration awarded the Biofabrication Cluster, led by the City of Manchester, a $44 million Build Back Better Challenge award, matched by $12 million in local resources from coalition and industry partners, to establish Southern New Hampshire as the global epicenter for the production and distribution of regenerative tissues and organs.
This investment will spearhead the development of a cutting-edge Contract Development Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) in the Manchester Millyard, providing the capability for late-stage clinical and commercial manufacturing of cell-, tissue-, and organ-based therapies. The coalition is implementing five additional projects to further accelerate economic growth, including the BioFab Startup Lab, which has already hosted its first cohort of startups; a Training Facility for industry development; a Work-and-Learn program in partnership with local schools, universities, and community-based organizations; a Vertiport pilot station for electric-vertical take-off and land logistics network to be used for therapy distribution; and coordination of various community-wide engagement efforts.

INNOVATIVE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING
A century ago, Manchester was home to one of the largest textile manufacturers in the world. Today, Manchester leads again in manufacturing ingenuity, recently heralded by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo as the “next generation of innovation that America needs.”
The projected economic impact of biofabrication industry growth includes nearly 7,000 direct jobs and over 30,000 indirect jobs, an opportunity recognized by New Hampshire economist Brian Gottlob as one "that we have not seen in the state ever before."
